GIG is….

Global Innovation Gathering (GIG) is a vibrant, diverse community of innovation hubs, makerspaces, hackerspaces and other grassroots innovation community spaces and initiatives, as well as individual innovators, makers, technologists and changemakers. GIG is pursuing a new vision for global cooperation based on equality, openness and sharing. We aim to enable more diversity in the production of technology and global innovation processes and support open and sustainable solutions developed by grassroots innovators. With strong roots in the global south, we share, collaborate and work together globally. GIG provides a platform for meaningful exchange by fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration between its members.

We are looking for three members to join our team in February 2022:

Position: Outreach and Communications

We are looking for a person to manage all outreach and communication activities for GIG, the tasks would include:

  • Manage the Social Media Channels
  • Coordinate and edit a monthly Newsletter
  • Acquiring and managing media partnerships
  • Coordinating with members and partners for comms and outreach activities
  • Manage project communications and channels, including websites, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook platforms for the organisation’s projects
  • Support in partner management and acquisition
  • Simple layout and design work, being able to use tools such as canva PRO
  • Coordinate with designers for creation of more complex print and digital products
  • Helpful: Basic video editing skills
  • Organising online and offline events
  • Coordinate and guide volunteers

Position: Community Networks and Partners

We are looking for a person who would be responsible for community activation and coordination. This will require to include the following tasks:

  • Managing onboarding of new members
  • Facilitating online community engagement in different formats, for instance involving members in projects or the planning of the annual gatherings
  • Supporting and connect existing networks between makerspaces, hackerspaces and other innovation hubs
  • Ensuring knowledge transfer between partner organisations and network partners
  • Coordinating the development of a network sustainability strategy
  • Outreach to potential partners and newly emerging communities

General Required skills

  • Openness, creativity and an interest to work in international networks
  • Being comfortable working independently and with a decentralised and international team members
  • Experience working in international NGOs, innovation hubs or network organisations
  • Experience in managing and documenting projects
  • Very good English language skills, written and spoken
  • Min of two year’s work-experience

Overall tasks will include:

  • Develop a sustainable community activation and engagement strategy including online and offline activities, ethical community management guidelines and a community code of conduct (CoC)
  • Support onboarding and engagement of participants, form and sustain communities of practice on different intervention levels
  • Ensure all involved communities are activated, informed, and participating throughout the project duration
  • Reach out to further potential partners and newly emerging communities
  • Organise, facilitate and document different engagement formats on- and offline and on the local, regional and international level, e.g. Community Meetups, Knowledge Exchange Webinars, Matchmaking Events, Cocreation Sprints, Peer-to-Peer Support Calls.
  • Facilitate online community engagement in the different formats
  • Organize, facilitate and document offline events for community engagement, knowledge transfer and co-creation sprints
  • Ensure project’s sustainability beyond funding period by embedding project outcomes into existing institutional structures, i.e. open education resources and trainings, moderated online platforms, maps, management systems, and catalogues development
  • Support and connect existing networks between African and European makerspaces
  • Ensure knowledge transfer between partner organisations and their networks

Position: Project administration and events

For this position, we require someone to also be quite fluent in German, so if you understand the following text and are not scared by German Verwaltungssprache you should be fine:

Wir suchen eine Person, die uns in Projektadministration und -umsetzung unterstützt:

  • Unterstützung von Fördermittelbewerbungen und Projektumsetzung auf Deutsch und Englisch
  • Datenbankpflege
  • Veranstaltungsmanagement: Selbstständige Organisation, Durchführung und Abrechnung von digitalen und Präsenz-Veranstaltungen (kleine Meetups/Seminare mit 10-20 Teilnehmenden, Ausstellungen, größere Veranstaltungen)
  • Evaluation: Auswertung und Aufbereitung von Umfragen und Abschlussberichten
  • Erstellen von Verträgen, Veranstaltungsmanagement, Reisemanagement und Reisekostenerstattungen, Raumbuchungen
  • Buchhaltung und Fördermittelabrechnung: Mitarbeit in der Budgetausschöpfung, Erstellung von Verwendungsnachweisen
  • Anleitung von Hilfskräften und Ehrenamtlichen
  • allgemeine (auch digitale) Büroorganisation

Erforderliche Fähigkeiten:

  • Offenheit und Interesse, in einem internationalen Netzwerk mit global verteiltem Team zu arbeiten (Teamsprache Englisch)
  • sehr gute Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse
  • Erfahrung im Verwaltungs-, Finanz- oder kaufmännischen Bereich und in der Bewirtschaftung öffentlicher Mittel
  • Erfahrung im Projektmanagement, Veranstaltungsmanagement und mit digitalen Bildungsformaten
  • sehr gute Kenntnisse und Anwendungssicherheit in Office-Paketen (MS Office, Google Docs, Libre Office) und cloud-Services (nextcloud)
  • Genauigkeit
  • Kommunikations- Koordinations- und Teamfähigkeit
  • Gender- und Diversitykompetenz
