You are warmly invited to our fourth make-a-thek Community Call, part of our EU Horizon Project make-a-thek, and this time we’re going deep south with three impressive speakers from Latin America.
In this call, we will discuss the Impact of Digital Fabrication on Biomaterials and Ancestral Techniques for Design & Craftsmanship. We’ll explore how digital processes are being combined with traditional techniques across Latin America to generate sustainable fashion solutions, innovative textile design, and regenerative craftsmanship. Join makers, engineers, and digital fabrication experts to exchange approaches and ideas for sustainable design that honors cultural heritage and ancestral wisdom.
For the first time at GIG, this community call will be conducted in Spanish (with real-time translation into English)! The episode will be posted later with English subtitles.

Ta Corrales, OAXIN Innovation Center
Ta is a mechanical engineer and open innovation advocate with experience in inclusive technology, participatory design, and action research across 12+ countries. As an MIT D-Lab Innovation Practice Affiliate and leader at OAXIN Innovation Center, she leads inclusive technology processes that empower communities globally. Her work focuses on bridging digital divides through collaborative design and community-centered innovation.
Ana Milena Trujillo Castro, Humanitarian Engineer
Ana Milena is a Humanitarian Engineer specializing in social innovation, sustainability, and human-centered design. She has collaborated with organizations like IDB Lab, Christian Doppler Lab, and Engineering for Change across six countries, facilitating international teams to co-create technologies that uplift communities. She is passionate about transforming technologies into impactful enterprises through cross-sector collaboration and community development.
Walter Gonzales Arnao, Professor, Faculty of Architecture, UNI
Walter is a Professor with a PhD in Physics and specialization in Digital Design (FabAcademy 2012, MIT-CBA). He serves as professor at the Faculty of Architecture, UNI, and is co-founder of FabCraft, the South American Network of Digital Craftsmanship. With 147 granted patents and leadership of the Fab Loom project showcased in 30+ countries, he bridges traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge digital fabrication technologies.

Ta es ingeniera mecánica y defensora de la innovación abierta con experiencia en tecnología inclusiva, diseño participativo e investigación-acción en más de 12 países. Como Afiliada de Práctica de Innovación del MIT D-Lab y líder en OAXIN Innovation Center, dirige procesos de tecnología inclusiva que empoderan comunidades a nivel global. Su trabajo se enfoca en cerrar brechas digitales a través del diseño colaborativo y la innovación centrada en la comunidad.

Ana Milena es Ingeniera Humanitaria especializada en innovación social, sostenibilidad y diseño centrado en el ser humano.
