About your organisation

The MakersPlace is dedicated to transforming education in Ghana by advancing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education. Our mission is to empower students with the skills, knowledge, and creativity needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving technological world. We aim to bridge the gap between traditional education and the demands of the modern workforce by providing hands-on, innovative learning experiences.

Our vision is to create a future where every student in Ghana has access to high-quality STEAM education and the opportunity to develop their full potential. We envision a society where young minds are equipped to be leaders, problem-solvers, and innovators, driving positive change in their communities and beyond.

Key Objectives:

  1. Empower Students: Equip students with practical skills in robotics, coding, and other STEAM fields through engaging and interactive learning experiences.
  2. Foster Innovation: Encourage creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills by providing opportunities for students to participate in projects and competitions.
  3. Support Educators: Offer training and resources to educators to help them effectively integrate STEAM education into their classrooms.
  4. Promote Inclusivity: Ensure that all students, regardless of their background, have access to quality STEAM education.
  5. Build Community: Create a supportive community of learners, educators, and innovators who can collaborate and share best practices.

Initiatives and Programs:

  1. Comprehensive Curriculum Development: Design and implement curricula for K-12 students that focus on coding, robotics, and foundational literacy and numeracy.
  2. Workshops and Training: Conduct hands-on workshops and training sessions for students and educators to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  3. After-School Programs: Launch pilot projects for after-school programs that teach foundational literacy and numeracy using coding.
  4. Competitions and Events: Organize and support participation in national and international robotics competitions, such as the FIRST LEGO League Championship.
  5. Learning Platforms: Utilize online platforms to provide accessible educational content and resources.
  6. Collaborative Projects: Engage in projects that promote teamwork and real-world problem-solving.

Impact:

Under the leadership of Douglas Ayitey, The MakersPlace has achieved significant milestones, including winning the FIRST LEGO League Championship for the 2023-2024 season. This success has provided students with the opportunity to participate in international competitions and gain invaluable experience. Our work supports the development of a skilled and innovative generation that is prepared to tackle the challenges of the future.
