Re:publica Sessions GIG – DDMP
We are excited to announce that this year the Global Innovation Gathering will be hosting a pre-publica programme on May 20th together with the Distributed Design Europe Network. The programme is going to feature makers and innovators from around the world showcasing their work and discussion current topics
Whether virtual or in person – re:publica is the space where different communities convene and exchange including the international network of innovators that is the Global Innovation Gathering and the the Distributed Design network that brings together makers across Europe. This year we can’t welcome you at our pop-up Makerspace but we can invite you to join the sessions on May 20th as well as the other re:publica days to meet the GIG and DDMP communities and learn how the maker movement is working in times of the pandemic to support local communities with PPE, fight climate change and design a fair and equitable future!
Speakers will include Reem Talhouk https://reemtalhouk.com/who will be unpacking notions of Resilience and how humanitarian technologies contribute to dystopian futures for refugees. Mathilde Berchon who will speaking on 3D printing the future and Bart de Witte on Open Health data. We will hear from the FabLab Bhutan how they are working against climate change, we will hear from Vilsquare Nigeria how they managed to turn an open design for a microscope into an off the shelf supermarket product, making science accessible and affordable.

Distributed Design Market Platform (DDMP) is an exchange– and networking hub for the European Marker Movement. The Distributed Design Market Platform is a four–year project funded by the European Union through the Creative Europe fund. It acts as an exchange and networking hub for the European Maker Movement.
Global Innovation Gathering (GIG) is a vibrant, diverse community of innovation hubs, makerspaces, hackerspaces and other grassroot innovation community spaces and initiatives as well as individual innovators, makers, technologists and changemakers. GIG is pursuing a new vision for global cooperation based on equality, openness and sharing. We aim to enable more diversity in the production of technology, and global innovation processes and support open and sustainable solutions developed by grassroot innovators. The GIG network has been growing steadily since its founding at re:publica 2013 and was registered as a nonprofit association in Berlin in 2017
