DOTS 2023: A Virtual Gathering of Global Innovators

The Global Innovation Gathering (GIG) is excited to announce the return of its annual convention: DOTS, which will be held online from Dec 5th to 8, 2023.

This event is a unique opportunity for all members to follow up on GIG projects and connect our actions.

🔭 A Look Back at DOTS

Before we dive into what’s in focus for 2023, let’s take a moment to reflect on the previous editions of DOTS. The convention started in 2019 as a new, impact and output-driven event format. It was more than a hackathon, a BarCamp, or an accelerator sprint – it was a combination of innovative formats and methodologies kicking off and scaling up collaborative (South-to-South) projects.

In 2020, DOTS went virtual, bringing together worldwide communities during COVID-19. The event was a virtual co-creation of real impact. Innovators worldwide shared their work experiences and ideas on navigating the coronavirus crisis and supporting local communities with open technologies.

🌈 DOTS 2023: What to Expect

This year, DOTS continues to foster impact-driven innovation, emancipatory technology, open source, and maker culture. The DOTS 2023 schedule fetches informative sessions, engaging panels, and opportunities to connect with fellow innovators.

Here are some of the sessions you can look forward to:

Tuesday, Dec 5th

• 13:00-13:45 How to re:publica Info Session: Quick intro into communities’ different activities, followed by How to submit a session and be part of re:publica 2024 through GIG?
• 14:00 Diversity in Hubs: A discussion on the importance of diversity in innovation hubs.

Wednesday, Dec 6th

• 12:00 Business Models and Sustainability – Asia-friendly timezone session: A session focused on sharing some of the work we did in the MAKE & IMA projects on business & sustainability models for hubs, and discuss how to take it forwards.
• 14:00 How to work within Climate & Crisis: A round panel to share experiences from members’ perspectives and activities
• 15:30 Agile prototyping: understand ways of sharing particular concerns and expertise and the tools we use to support, enhance and communicate our knowledge and practices

Thursday, Dec 7th

• 13:00-14:00 Careables – Open Healthcare meetup: This is for those interested in open health and care solutions.
• 15:30 International Cooperation Finances and Admin – The NSB case is a co-study conversation on international cooperation finances and administration.
• 17:00 Business Models and Sustainability – LATAM friendly timezone session: A session focused on sharing some of the work we did in the MAKE & IMA projects on business & sustainability models for hubs, and discuss how to take it forwards.

Friday, Dec 8th

• 14:00 Meet the Members: the annual edition: An opportunity to meet and connect with other GIG members.
• 15:30 We are celebrating GIG at the end-of-year members’ party! This is a celebration of the GIG community and the past year’s accomplishments.
