About it |
MboaLab is an open and collaborative space located in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Moreover, it is a Research and practical Center on Open Science and Citizen Sciences, existing since 2018. The Mboalab aims to catalyse sustainable local development through open science. Specifically, we provide a better life to local populations through Open biotechnology, Artificial intelligence for Health, digital fabrication and scholarly communication. To achieve its missions, the Mboalab can count on its three units.
– The community biology lab, which is deeply involved in Open Enzyme local manufacturing, in collaboration with Open Bioeconomy Lab. Aside from molecular biology, we are also involved in community health and the use of DIYBio in medical diagnosis to solve local health problems. Established in 2018, the lab currently runs several projects amongst which is the open enzyme manufacturing project. At its core, our work in Mboalab Biotech is focused on making biotechnology research and tools more accessible to labs around the world through scientific research and development and local production of reagents. We are committed to the development of open educational resources as well as simple and cost-effective protocols that can be applied in resource-limited laboratories. We also provide scientific research projects targeting local health issues, internships opportunities, and training sessions to young local scientists to equip them with molecular biology and DIY- Biology skills, and prepare them for employment.
– The artificial intelligence and digital fabrication unit, rooted in Do it Yourself (DiY) practices, sharing, collaboration, data trust and mutual support.
– The MboaLab library, created in 2018 with the support of Canadian volunteers. The library is divided into four distinct sections: the study and reading area, the sewing and DIY area, the computer area and the games area.
