GIG is….

Global Innovation Gathering (GIG) is a vibrant, diverse community of innovation hubs, makerspaces, hackerspaces and other grassroots innovation community spaces and initiatives, as well as individual innovators, makers, technologists and changemakers. 

GIG is pursuing a new vision for global cooperation based on equality, openness and sharing. We aim to enable more diversity in the production of technology and global innovation processes and support open and sustainable solutions developed by grassroots innovators. With solid roots in the global south, GIG provides a platform for meaningful exchange by fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration between its members.

We’re thrilled to announce a new project supporting makers in Ukraine by connecting them with makers from the GIG network, facilitating exchange and co-creating open hardware projects for local needs. Therefore, we are looking for two people to join our team as soon as possible:

Position 1_ Project Coordinator 

We are looking for a person who can lead development cooperation projects on behalf of GIG, including administration and budget responsibility for projects. The main project will be a GIZ-funded project to expand our activities into Ukraine. Other projects can include projects funded by Nord Süd Brücken managed in collaboration with members of the GIG network. We work in English, but we need you to understand German project admin and paperwork. That’s why the following is written in German 😉:

Dein Aufgabenbereich:

• Koordination, Faszilitation und Dokumentation des Austauschs zwischen internationalen und Ukrainischen Makern (Online-Meetups, Online-Kommunikationsgruppe)

• Koordination des Gesamtprojekts und Koordination mit andern verwandten GIZ Vorhaben

• Organisation, Durchführung und Abrechnung von digitalen und Präsenz-Veranstaltungen im Projektkontext (Meetups, GIG Workshop-Wochenende und Projektpräsenz auf der re:publica)

• Evaluation: Auswertung und Aufbereitung von Umfragen, Erstellung von Zwischen- und Abschlussbericht, inkl. Wirkungskette

• Budgetverantwortung, unterstützende Buchhaltung und Fördermittelabrechnung, Erstellung von Verwendungsnachweisen

• Anleitung von Projektassistenz, Hilfskräften und Ehrenamtlichen

Nützliche Fähigkeiten und Eigenschaften:

• Erfahrung in der Koordination / Leitung von Entwicklungsvorhaben

 Offenheit und Interesse, in einem internationalen Netzwerk mit global verteiltem Team zu arbeiten (Teamsprache Englisch)

• Erfahrung im Projektmanagement und mit digitalen Bildungsformaten

• Erfahrung mit Budgetverantwortlichkeit und im Umgang mit öffentlichen Mitteln

• sehr gute Kenntnisse und Anwendungssicherheit in Office-Paketen (MS Office, Google Docs, Libre Office) und cloud-Services (nextcloud)

• sehr gute Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse, Ukrainisch-Kenntnisse von Vorteil (können aber auch von der Stelle der Projektassistenz abgedeckt werden)

• Genauigkeit

• Kommunikations- Koordinations- und Teamfähigkeit

• Gender- und Diversitykompetenz, Identifikation mit unseren Werten

  • Arbeitsplatz in Berlin/Deutschland, mobiles Arbeiten möglich, gelegentliche Arbeitstage in unserem Büro wünschenswert.
  • Contract: Employment with 50 Percent (20h/week). Beginn 1. or 15. January 2023 (Project duration: December 2022-November 2023). Salary following TVÖD 13, depending on qualifications. We’re working to extend the position.

Position 2_ Project assistant

We are looking for a person to support on all aspects of the project:

  • Event management, travel management
  • Organisation and Documentation of Meetups
  • Support with Procurement, Contracting, and Buying of material
  • Prepare content for external and internal communication channels
  • Database management
  • Desk research
  • Support project participants
  • Contribute to project reports
  • (Digital) office management

Helpful Skills:

• Fluent in English and Ukrainian, written and spoken. German skills desirable

• Openness, creativity and an interest in working in international networks

• Excellent digital skills: Office, Cloud, video conferencing, chat software, blogs

• Being comfortable working independently and with a decentralised and international team
